After School Care Information

Crenshaw Athletic Club is located in Northwest Austin off of Balcones Drive. This state of the art training facility is home for many different activities for children and adults. The indoor heated pool was built with teaching in mind. The shallow end is a mere 18 inches deep. The 12,000 square foot gymnasium is equipped with both full-size and scaled-down gymnastic apparatus. All of the trampolines are ground level to ensure the utmost in trampoline safety. There is a special arts & crafts room, computer lab/academic area and additional special classrooms.

Crenshaw After School Care is a Sports and educational program dedicated to the development and advancement of children through physical and mental activities. It is our goal to make Crenshaws the most progressive facility of its kind. In striving to accomplish this goal, we never lose sight of the individual child. We pledge to do our best to develop each child's potential and provide them with a rewarding, enjoyable and positive experience.

Did you know that Crenshaws is one of the oldest private gymnastic clubs in the United States? The beginning dates back to 1949. The After School Program became a reality in 1984 with the completion of our facility on Balcones Drive. Over the years, the program has maintained its unique qualities while adding new and exciting activities.

Our After School Care program is different from the conventional care programs offered elsewhere. It provides a unique experience by offering a wide variety of activities. These include gymnastic classes, arts & crafts, computer games and field trips. The children also enjoy sports activities such as soccer, kickball, basketball, football, and recreational swimming. The goal of this program is to continue to challenge children by providing a fun atmosphere in which to spend their after school time. Crenshaws recognizes children should be challenged in a wide variety of ways to help expand their mind and body.

Schools

The After School Program picks up children from Highland Park,  Doss and Casis Elementary Schools. Children from Highland Park are met along the side of the school near the Kindergarten wing and walk across to our facility. Those children who come from Doss and Casis are picked up in one of our well maintained vans in front of the school and are returned to Crenshaws. The program is broken up into four groups or classes. They are kindergarten, first grade, second grade and a mix of third and fourth grades. Each of these groups have their own homeroom where they begin and end each afternoon. Two teachers are assigned to each group. When children go to the gymnasium an additional teacher is added, thus giving the gymnastics rotations a solid teaching ratio and ensuring quality instruction.

 

Daily Activities

The day consists of outdoor activities and crafts mixed in with two full gymnastics classes a week, and one trip to the computer lab each week. Fridays are set aside for recreational swimming in our indoor heated pool. Special field trips serve to compliment the program. Parents will receive a monthly calendar of events which helps in determining the best time to pick up children throughout the afternoon.

 

Our Staff

Teachers are hired for their expertise in specific areas. Crenshaws is pleased to maintain a highly qualified group of teachers from one year to the next.

 

Ages

After School Care is for children from Kindergarten through Fifth grade. The program is held Monday through Friday and strictly follows the A.I.S.D. schedule.

 

Holidays

There is no care on school holidays with the exception of Winter and Spring Break. Camps are offered at these times for an additional fee.

 

Hours

Care is from the time school is released until 6:00 p.m.

 

Additional Fees

A fee is charged for those parent who are unable to pick up their child on time or do not call the office when children are going to be absent from the program.

 

Supply Fees

A nominal supply fee is included in the August tuition.

 

Gymnastic Uniform

A gymnastics uniform is required for class and can be purchased at the office for $15 plus tax. ($16.20) Crenshaws will provide a bag for each new student to keep their uniform and bathing suit at the club.

 

Snacks

A light snack is served to the children daily. We do not allow the children to purchase snacks from the machines in the lobby.

REGISTRATION INFORMATION

We begin registration for After School Care on March 1st of each year. The program is VERY popular and will generally fill immediately.  A $100 registration fee and a registration form is required to sign up for the program.
